INT. UPSTATE COUNTRY CLUB
A young PREPPIE in golf clothes goes into the bathroom. Mike and Bill approach the door, and Bill gives Mike a knowing wink. Only Mike goes inside, while Bill guards the door.
INT. UPSTATE COUNTRY CLUB BATHROOM
The preppie stands, urinating as Mike approaches.
PREPPIE
Back again, officer? I thought my father told you…
MIKE
We matched your DNA to one of the rapists.
PREPPIE
You don’t have my DNA.
MIKE
We got it off the glass at the pagoda. And that’s it for you. You’re going away.
The preppie finishes urinating, turns around, and zips up.
PREPPIE
My father’s lawyers will get me off.
MIKE
Our men have gotten all of your buddies’ DNA too. One of you’ll flip.
PREPPIE
You can’t do that.
MIKE
Yes, we can. It’ll hold up in court. But you won’t ever tell anyone what happened in this bathroom.
Mike begins unzipping his pants.
PREPPIE
What are you – you can’t… I’ll tell, I will tell!
MIKE
No you won’t. And if not because of the shame, then because anyone crazy enough to do this is crazy enough to kill you, and your friends, and your family. And know that he’d be right doing it, after what you did to that girl.
PREPPIE
No, no!
Mike punches the preppie hard, then slams his head into the urinal. Mike then pulls down the preppie’s pants and sodomizes him as he cries.
MIKE
I got you, bitch. I got you. You’re going away, bitch. Your ass in mine now.
The preppie whimpers.
INT. NEW YORK CITY APPARTMENT – DAY
Several cops are there, along with Mike and Bill. There’s blood all over the apartment, a man’s corpse, a woman’s body that’s been carved up so that we see bone along with much blood, and a young girl crying off-screen.
ANNOUNCER
(voice-over)
Just like in real life, cases aren’t neatly wrapped up at the end of each episode. Several cases continue at once over the course of the season.
COP #1
(to Mike)
They got the daughter in the other room. What she’s been through…
MIKE
All this blood. Like they painted with it.
COP #1
They did. It’s the mother’s. The father, they just shot.
The girl continues her sobs, off-screen and throughout.
MIKE
And the mother… carved up like that.
COP #1
They made the daughter eat her. Eat her, Mike.
MIKE
God.
BILL
That’s supposed to happen in places like Bosnia or Africa. Not America.
COP #2
They were immigrants, Mike. They came to this country to get a better life.
(whispering)
That girl. You gotta get some vengeance for this one, Mike. The kind only you’re willing. The rest of us… we got your backs. You understand?
MIKE
(looking at corpse)
The breasts are missing.
COP #1
We found one on the nightstand.
He points to it and we see it, just sitting there, abstractly, a pool of blood underneath it.
COP #1
(continuing)
The other they made her eat.
COP #2
They told her it was the softest meat, Mike. I mean, how fucked up is that?
MIKE
There’s cutting on the vagina as well.
COP #2
They cut off her vulva and made the girl eat it. They made the girl eat it, Mike. They carved half her damn cunt out and made the baby girl eat it.
COP #3
Victims’ Services is here for the girl.
EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET – NIGHT
Mike and Bill pull up next to another car in an abandoned parking lot so that the drivers’ windows are next to each other. The cars roll down their windows. Inside the other car is a PAYOFF MAN.
ANNOUNCER
(voice-over)
These cops are corrupt, and not just in their tactics.
The payoff man hands Mike an envelope of cash.
MIKE
Looks a little light this week.
PAYOFF MAN
The hos had a bad week, man. No lie.
Mike gives the payoff man a stern, extremely threatening look.
PAYOFF MAN
(continued)
Hey, you know it rained two nights this week? How you gonna pimp girls and sell drugs when no one want to be out. That shit hurt our business too, you know.
MIKE
(waving him off)
Okay, okay. Then we want something… a little extra. Bill wants three girls this weekend. His place. Clean ones.
PAYOFF MAN
Three? You’re killing me, man.
MIKE
This ain’t a democracy.
PAYOFF MAN
Alright, ease up. I can spare three. Before work hours. Sunday’s better than Saturday.
MIKE
All weekend.
PAYOFF MAN
Fuck. You’re really breaking my balls here.
MIKE
Clean ones. Good-looking ones. I don’t want any cheap shit here.
PAYOFF MAN
Yeah, okay. But I got something I need. I got a guy, sends his girls out into my territory.
MIKE
(rolls his eyes)
That’s your problem. You a pimp or ain’t you?
PAYOFF MAN
Shit. Yeah, I’m a pimp. But you know how hard it is out there? I’ve had to beat up six girls this week been working my streets without the license.
MIKE
And you want someone in blue do it for you? Send ‘em a message. That you got… police protection.
PAYOFF MAN
Something like that.
Bill whispers to Mike.
MIKE
(to payoff man)
You know what? I feel generous. So I’ll rough a few up for you, let ‘em know you’re protected. But you gotta show some appreciation.
PAYOFF MAN
What do you want?
MIKE
You make the three girls a regular thing. Rotate ‘em as he wants. Young, cute – no scars, no disease. You know what happens if Bill here gets a disease from your girls.
PAYOFF MAN
That’s steep.
MIKE
Tell you what: we protect you whenever you need it. You just call us. And you… you keep my partner happy.
PAYOFF MAN
You got it.
MIKE
(smiling)
Good doing business with you. You have a nice night, now.
Mike rolls up his window and speeds away.
INT. UNMARKED POLICE CAR – NIGHT
Mike and Bill are beating a suspect. Bill mostly holds the guy while Mike hits him. The suspect groans.
ANNOUNCER
(voice-over)
Two renegade cops. Beating suspects.
EXT. NEW YORK CITY STREET – NIGHT
Mike walks down the street, passing a prostitute, then hits her violently and begins kicking her on the stoop of a tenement. She’s bleeding. Onlookers begin to gather, talking.
MIKE
Tell your fucking boss he’s late with his payment.
Mike walks quickly off.
ANNOUNCER
(voice-over)
Collecting payments as if they were the criminals.
INT. NEW YORK CITY SQUADHOUSE – INTERROGATION ROOM
A SUSPECT is sitting in a plain wooden chair at a plain wooden desk as Mike stands over him with a bag.
MIKE
You know, if I’d caught you, I’d have beaten you within an inch of your life. Just my luck, some other cops caught you first.
SUSPECT
You touch me, and my lawyer –
MIKE
Oh, no, I won’t leave a mark. We cops know what we’re doing. That’s what the rubber hose is for.
Mike pulls a rubber hose out of his bag.
SUSPECT
My lawyer –
MIKE
There are forty cops in this building who’ll testify that they watched us the whole time and didn’t see me lay a hand on you. They all want to be in here. They know you deserve it. They just don’t have the balls.
SUSPECT
Don’t… please…
MIKE
Usually, I beat guys to extract confessions and the like. But you… you’re a child rapist. And a killer. A serial child rapist. Serial killer. So I couldn’t pass up a chance to take a crack at you.
Mike raises his hand.
SUSPECT
(pleading)
No, please…
Mike begins to beat him. It’s dark, non-romantic.
ANNOUNCER
(voice-over)
