Fragments of a Formerly Active Sex Life

Keep Smiling
by Mark Osborne  /  poetry  /  6 Apr 2009

Life is difficult
I am nothing but my mouth
An inconceivable concept, yet you believe
People know me through word
People know me through smile
People know me through laugh

Yet, I am not my mouth
I am nothing
You know nothing

People torture me,
And throughout torture, I grin
I laugh at you because you let me

I am empty, yet you think of me full...
Mouths tend to delude us all
A world full of smiling liars

I smile as I write this, thinking of the past
In the end, my smile is there to deceive myself
What a difficult task!
May my smile one day work...

I suppose this smile is simply broken?
