Dante Alighieri




Dante Alighieri, born Durante degli Alighieri but better known simply as Dante, was born in Florence in 1265.  He is best known as a poet and is considered one of the finest in world history, known in Italian as "the Supreme Poet" (il Sommo Poeta).  He died in 1321.
